Playkey DevLog. Issue Eighteen
Well, hello there. Let’s start with the most important thing: We added microphone support to Playkey.
With that out of the way, it’s back to our list. You probably remember that we launched Desktop in June. If you’re interested in reading about why that’s a key decentralization element, check out our last issue. Needless to say, a few bugs slipped through our tests, so we’ve spent the last couple of weeks hunting them down and eliminating them. Here are the main ones:
- Not all virtual machines were available for new sessions once previous sessions wrapped up.
- Some users received a message about an error when they launched the game, and that kept them from playing.
At the same time, we were getting a second game, Fortnite, ready for Desktop now that we have GTA V out of the way. The game had to be shut down in the centralized version after we discovered a problem with the anticheat system. Happily, that problem didn’t occur in the Desktop build, which means Fortnite is already up and running on Playkey.net via Desktop in Russia and CIS countries.
The microphone feature is yet another benefit that comes with our Desktop technology. Adding it to the old build, the one the centralized platform is based on, took a whole lot of hard work, though voice chat is already good to go on Desktop! You can already enjoy the benefits of gaming with a mic in GTA V and Fortnite.
For better image quality, we’re continuing to work on support for the H.265 codec, specifically writing the script for how we’ll be applying it. By default, the platform will select the optimal codec (H.264 or H.265) based on the hardware you’re using. You’ll also be able to pick the one you prefer using the special configuration tool (opened by pressing Ctrl+F2 in the Playkey application). The dev team is already putting that script into action, and we’ll be sure to let you know as soon as we add the update with H.265 support. Talk to you soon.
