The Atomic Heart gameplay trailer uploaded on YouTube last May had impressed a lot of gamers. All what is even more interesting that the game is developed by the Moscow studio Mundfish. Robert Bagratuni, the CEO of the company has been interviewed by a few publications (including IGN, PC Gamer and RBC) — so we gathered the most exciting facts about the upcoming game.

Atomic Heart World

Atomic Heart will take place in USSR, which has succeeded in building biorobots. At some point at the facility №3826, the robots got out of control and a KGB officer was given the task to fix the issue.

Robert also has mentioned that the factory will not be the only location. We will be able to fight on several locations (populated by different biomes), connected by rail. The game is announced as an open world action but according to the gameplay trailers, the story seems pretty linear taking place on surface and underground locations.

The artist Artem Galeyev, who has been working on the project since 2010s, is responsible for the visual part and the storyline of the game universe. A lot of people find many similarities with BioShock or S.T.A.L.K.E.R (due to anomalies), while the developers think that they were more inspired by the British science fiction television series “Black Mirror”. The game is also inspired by the works of Stanislav Lem, the Strugatsky brothers (no wonder why it reminds S.T.A.L.K.E.R.) and generally a legacy of the Soviet era.

Gameplay

The first trailer gave the impression that Atomic Heart will be a FPS game however later, Mundfish clarified that it would be an action / RPG with FPS elements. We find it hard to believe as crafting system (making weapons from found garbage) and melee fighting are not enough to make an action a role playing game. Well, we will see.

10-minute gameplay video has shown that we will have a hard time fighting the opponents. Trying to fight two robots at the same time will be a challenge. We suspect it will be wiser to deal with them one by one in melee combat. Again, Atomic Heart isn’t about shooting so make sure you spend the ammo wisely.

Graphics

When it comes to Atomic Heart graphics, we have absolutely no complaints. Lightning, visual effects, animation — everything looks great, even the pre-alpha version was impressive.

According to Mundfish, the team has a several employees worked on some popular AAA projects. In total, there are about 30 full-time employees working in two offices.

Atomic Heart is powered by Unreal Engine 4, and it is also known that the developers have a close cooperation with Epic Games. Another important partner is NVIDIA. The Green Team is helping Mundfish to implement support for retracing and DLSS. By the way, make sure you read our article about the new technologies.

However, NVIDIA doesn’t only help Mundfish with technologies implementation, it also promoting the game. RTX On/Off demos were shown by the Green Team at several major trade shows.

Journalists having played the pre-alpha version in Moscow Mundfish office reported that the gameplay was quite smooth on RTX 2070, no frame drop whatsoever.

Future expectations

Mundfish expects to excite the curiosity of gamers from all over the world, not only Russian gamers and seems it’s doing great — judging by the millions of views on YouTube and pre-order numbers. By the way, you can pre-order PC version of Atomic Heart the company’s website and get an invitation to participate in beta testing (end of 2019).

RBC writes (with reference to Mundfish management) that most Atomic Heart preorders come from Japan and the United States. The following are Korea, Germany, Canada and the Russian Federation. Mundfish hopes to sell more than 1 million of copies during the first year. The studio is already cooperating with important foreign publishers — for example, Chinese and Japanese (The project will be supported by Sony in Japan).

For the future, Mundfish plans to release several development diaries and organize few live streams with team members. The release is planned for 2020.

We hope Atomic Heart will eventually be available in the Playkey.net catalog. The game looks very demanding so instead of wasting money on updating PC, you may consider subscription to our cloud platform.
